NETWATCH

As the Wessex Electrics sink slowly in the West, Ian Coster has uploaded a short video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0fy6yw6uYo

(Other 442 videos are also viewable on the site.)

Reports of their demise last week were a little premature, as they are still on lease until Feb 3rd and will be used as required up until then.

Steve McNally has put more pictures of them here, together with the first trial of new bogie wagons for Wool sand, which will eventually lead to the end of the 4 wheeled hoppers: http://steve-mcnally.fotopic.net/

More from Helston, this time pictures of work class 103 there: http://www.helstondieselgroup.co.uk/

The power car of the other class 103 is at Swansea awaiting restoration to be used on the Swansea to Abernant "Amman Valley Railway", and details of that line can be found at: http://ammanvalleyrail.netfirms.com/

Maybe a little esoteric, but there's a discussion group for those who are interested in Enfield Town shed: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/enfieldtownshed/

Others (some of which might have appeared here before, but it's difficult to keep track of them all...)

For those actively interested in preserving a class 310 EMU: http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/310-active-preservationists/

An group EMU preservation: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/EMUPreservationSociety/

For those who are interested in the DMUs built by Cravens of Sheffield and used between 1956 and 1989: http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/CravensDMU/

A group for those interested in Park Royal class 103 DMU used between 1958 and 1990: http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/ParkRoyal103/

A group aiming to increase awareness of M56160 a very rare Park Royal class 103 Driving Trailer Composite DTCL vehicle dating from first half of 1958. This is at Bodfari behind Aberwheeler Nursery off the A541 in North Wales. There is no public access to the site but it can be seen behind the nursery "over the fence": http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/M56160/

Former Devon Belle Pullman Observation Car 14 began its jouney back to the UK on 14th January when it was successfully extracted from its location next to an office block in San Francisco and loaded onto a trailer for transport to Los Angeles sea port. It is expected back in the UK on 19th February when it will go direct to Rampart C&W for assesment and overhaul before moving to the Swanage Railway hopefully in late summer. The appeal is still open and donations can be made online should you want to help. Early pictures (more to come) are at: http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/news340.htm

If you're in the Wroxham area of East Anglia, there is a miniature railway run by Peter Bower in the garden of his house: Barton House, Hartwell Road, The Avenue, Wroxham, Norfolk, NR12 8TL. There is also a museum of M&GNR railwayana - signalling equipment, box diagrams, lamps and posters plus the preserved ex-M&GNR Honing East signal box. No website as such, but Googling Barton House railway will bring up some "Tourist Board" references. Ring to check opening times.

Andy Sollis has added two new galleries to the Staffordshire Type 4 website showing the generator change and the cab rewire: http://www.st4.org

A reminder of a wonderful railway photographs site: http://www.phantasrail.co.uk/

A fascinating shed site: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~luigin/Locoshed/Locoshed.htm

A gem of a video from the 1960s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvBgfzsDIHo
